Cutting curly hair is different work from cutting straight hair. Curl springs, so length behaves differently dry than wet. Weight sits differently. A shape that looks balanced under tension can collapse the moment it dries.
We have two dedicated curl specialists, which is rare for a salon this size and rarer still in South Shore.
Paul has 22 years behind the chair and has spent much of his career in educational roles — teaching cutting technique rather than only performing it. Angelica brings over 30 years, built largely in New York, and works across both curly and straight cutting.
Between them we handle everything from loose waves to tight coils, and we will tell you honestly if your hair would be better served by a different approach.
Who it’s for
- Curls previously cut by someone who treated them like straight hair
- Frizz that arrives the moment you step outside
- Curl that has loosened or changed — after pregnancy, hormones, or heat damage
- Hair that behaves differently on each side of the head
- Anyone never shown how to look after their own texture
Who it isn’t for
We’d rather tell you now than halfway through.
- Anyone wanting curls removed permanently That is Japanese Thermal Straightening — a different service with different consequences.
- Anyone expecting one appointment to fix years of damage Heat-damaged curl does not always come back. We will tell you what is recoverable and what has to grow out.
- Anyone unwilling to change their home routine A good curly cut with the wrong products at home will still frizz. The routine is half the result.

The part most salons skip. You will see exactly how your hair was styled and what each product did.
-
Routine plan5 min
Written down, so it does not evaporate on the drive home.
Before & after
Aftercare
- Sulfate-free cleanser; many curl types do better with a co-wash
- Apply product to soaking wet hair, not damp
- Scrunch, do not rub — microfibre or a cotton t-shirt, never terry cloth
- Diffuse on low heat, or air dry undisturbed
- Sleep in a pineapple or on satin
- Refresh between washes rather than re-washing daily

Questions
Do I need to arrive with my hair a certain way?
Wear it as you normally do — clean, dry and in its natural state. Do not straighten it. We need to see what it actually does.
Is this a DevaCut?
We cut curl dry and shape to the individual curl pattern, which shares principles with several named methods. What matters is the stylist's eye, not the brand name on the technique.
Will you cut it dry or wet?
Dry, generally, so we can see where curl actually falls. Some textures are better served wet — we will tell you which at consultation.
My curls have loosened over the years. Can you bring them back?
Sometimes. Loosening from damage often improves with the right care. Loosening from hormones or age usually does not. We will be straight with you about which is which.
Can I get colour too?
Yes, and Angelica does both. Lightening affects curl pattern, so sequencing matters — talk to us before booking separately.
How often should I come in?
Most curly clients do well every 10 to 14 weeks. Curl hides growth better than straight hair. [CONFIRM]
